The easiest way to see Nainital is to begin around the lake, then add one or two higher viewpoints or walks. This keeps travel time sensible and leaves room for weather and traffic changes.

Naini Lake and the lakefront
Naini Lake is the natural centre of town. A walk along the lakefront helps you understand Mallital, Tallital and the main visitor areas before you head uphill.
Mall Road and the older town areas
Mall Road connects the two ends of the lake and works well for an unhurried walk. Nearby lanes and markets give a better feel for the town than simply moving from one attraction to another.
Naina Devi area
The temple area near the northern end of the lake is one of the town’s best-known stops. Visit with awareness of local worship and crowd conditions, especially on busy dates.
Upper viewpoints
Snow View and other higher points are best treated as weather-dependent viewpoints. On clear days the upper ridges can open wide mountain views; in cloud or fog the experience is very different.
Tiffin Top and Ayarpatta side
This side of town suits travellers who want a walk and forested hill atmosphere rather than only road-access sightseeing. Allow enough daylight for the return.
